Exhibition at The Hunterian

Learn more about the development of Whistler’s skill in pastel drawing throughout his career. Come along to our exhibition at The Hunterian from October 2024 until March 2025, where we will be highlighting some of the findings from our technical research.

The Whistler Pastels Exhibition at The Hunterian

Special events include:

  • A Friday Focus talk, hosted by The Hunterian, on Friday 4 October 2024.
  • A public tour of the exhibition in November 2024 with lead researcher and curator Tess Visser.
  • Rotating the selected works on display in January 2025, allowing visitors to view more of the Whistler drawings that were part of this research.

Selected works by Whistler will be on display together with a video explaining the research process. The exhibition will explore multiples themes in Whistler’s pastels including his approach to tonal harmony, use of mixed media, shaping movement from static figures, and depicting similar subjects using different pastel application and colour.
